i just had a web chat with Crucial UK re when the New Mac Pro's memory will be available. They told me that it will be in tomorrow and ready to buy on Thursday.

It is not going to be cheap though:

2GB kit is £159:99 + VAT

4GB kit is £285:99 + VAT

If you want more info contact Crucial.

Isn't this competitors talk?

A couple of other places are starting to get 800MHX FB-DIMMS in now as well.

Certainly make Apple look even more pricey then normal.

yeh it is not to bad of a price imo it is error checked memory after all. and it probably come way down in price shortly :)

Yeah they have been on the US site for a while, and they worked out expensive there!

I got my 4GB (2x2GB) for £170 from the bay, it was imported from the US, but compared to the Crucial prices... its cheap as chips!

why do apple charge so much more for upgrades than they actually cost, are there still people who actually pay like £500 for 4gb of ram in a macbook for example? seems really bizarre.

Lazy, fat wallet people = buy from Apple.
More tech fluent, bargain hunters = buy basic model (with or without a CPU / GPU bump) + others from 3rd party sites...

I was chatting to Crucial support on Friday night and was told it would be late March before they would be selling the 800mhz Macpro FBDimms in the UK... :(

Looks like i got some poo information, come on OcUK get this stuff in, 2gb just isnt enough.
