My Little Drobo

I received my Drobo today, along with 4 1TB Samsung Spinpoint Drives.

Took all of 5 minutes to install the drives and plug it all in.

Software was already installed, then formatted and now have 2.75TB of storage, fully protected.

Expensive (£600) but extremely painless/easy to install and use.

Drobo's implementation of a RAID5-like system.

Nice kit, but I wouldn't say fully protected unless it's mirrored somewhere. Theft/Fire/Dinosaurs and you've lost everything!

How are the HDD's being cooled? 4x 1TB Drives must get pretty toasty.

The spinpoint run nice and cool. The ones in my mac pro are at 23C at the moment !

Looks very nice! Did you consider any other NAS devices? I have been wanting to get a decent 4 disk NAS for ages and would like to hear how you came to choose the Drobo.

My brother has an Infant (now Netgear?) ReadyNAS NV which is lush but also not exactly cheap!
