im going to get a Mac Pro maybe next Jan as my current PC (see sig) is getting on my nerves with problems and i really like OSX since i got my macbook about 6 months ago

i prob get Mac Pro when They Get Nelm

it be used for
Internet,emails,forums etc etc
Games (loads of them)
programming (work related)

Question is I Dont No What to Do For Screens as im currently using 40inch HDTV (1080p) and dont want to use it for mac pro as i prefer to sit a desk for gerneral internet use.

i narrowed it down to 1x24inch 2x24inch or 1x30inch

what would you suggest (probably get these very soon)

would like a recommded Brand to although i ike it to match my black and white room/mac pro :D (i do like my 22inch samsung)

thanks:eek:

It depends what you prefer and what you work with, for some software (aperture springs to mind) two screens is a massive benefit over one big one but for other stuff one big screen is easier. Probably 2x 24" is the best bet for most people though value wise...

i program stuff in VB for special things we need at work like control multiple com ports in one application.

at work we create and test The sky Software for Sky+ boxes. hopefully i will be learning how do to do this

ps i have ps3,wii if mac pro turns out bad or i cold just install winblows :P

I use 2x or 3x 24" Dell screens on my main Macpro, as bigredshark says dual screens really are a massive benefit for some applications.

Personally, id struggle having to switch back to a single screen, Aperture is a real treat on dual screens, even better when on 3 though... 1 full screen preview, 1 showing adjustments and library and the 3rd for everything else, FTP, Interweb and emails...

Also Expose & Spaces really work well over multiple screens as well.

As for the Macpro being bad for games, i couldnt disagree more tbh... ok the 8800gt512mb is hardly cutting edge, but it plays everything ive thrown at it well enough and if i was seriously into gaming enough to care there is nothing to stop me sticking bootcamp on and then ANY pci-express graphics card in, it wont work under OSX, but, from what ive read it would work fine under XP/Vista.

I'm honestly failing to see any reasons for buying a Mac Pro, it sounds like you're buying it to either play games on (for which you'll be booted into Windows), or for running Visual Studio, which at the very least will involve VMware / Parallels. You're gaining nothing from having OS X running underneath it all.

Apart from a very reasonable price for a workstation of that spec, with support.

I'm also questioning the point of getting a workstation, he doesn't need 8 Xeon cores to code in VB, just spend your money on a Core 2 Quad from Dell or something, a workstation is overkill.

Yes it's a nice machine, and it's pretty much your only option if you want a Mac, but that doesn't make it the right tool for the job.

Edit: Darryn, I didn't say it was bad for games, I said don't buy one to play games on.

the main reason for a mac pro is basically i built custom pcs since i was a kid and love doing it, but recently my current pc has had annying issues they we all get now and again when we build pcs, im just bit fed up of these annying things, so i would like as prebuilt.

the PC market prebuilt are a joke so i want fast Mac to do my jobs and to mutitask and allow me to play games which 8800GT would.

i will most probably move entire to Mac as i love OSX to death. and with a mac pro i can do that aswell as windows as a backup on the gaming front.

i will most probably get into Graphic design again (autocad/cs3 etc) once i get the mac which would benefit me as not wasting my time playing games :) then i would be free of windows to

Have you looked into Cad packages available for OSX? from what i remember there arent many well supported OSX clients and you may end up having to boot into Windows or at least Parallels/Fusion for a decent Autodesk client.

i thought id list the stuff i would use on the mac pro

Photoshop cs3
flash cs3
Games
maya3d or a variation
imovie - would like to learn on how to video edit defo
terminal - love learning new commands and using command prompt in win so this will be fun
Firefox 3/camino - internet got have ff3 :D
Dreamweaver - may dabble in this new project from businesses.
Par

but the main reason for this is to Learn everything i can, while i can

I'm not one of these people who go Windows Does everything i want to so "I'm a windows fanboy" i like to experience everything i can then judge on which suits me best. (I've used Linux also)

This will help my knowledge further and could help mates as they ask me Which PC?
Should i Go Mac?

I Love My Macbook but, bit sluggish in Graphics Department & would perfer a desktop

2.2 C2D 4GB Ram 120GB HDD

hope this helps you figure which screen is best :D
