Below is the MP spec im going to purchase, most likely a a few days after the confernce in Sept.

a few questions
1) i need at least 1 extra 1TB drive any suggestions on make?
2) do you think 2TB should be enough for Photography storage/video/music
3) i may need to install bootcamp for games can i put that on a seprate drive?
4) what would the best external backup be for backing up Photo/video/music only? could be 1-1.5TB

  • One 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
  • 8GB (4x2GB)
  • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB
  • Two 18x SuperDrives
  • Apple Mighty Mouse
  • Apple Wireless Keyboard (British) and User's Guide (English)

Thanks!:D

Well, seeing as you're going vastly over the top you may as well grab WD black 1TB drives for the storage, and probably a drobo would be a good price no object choice for external storage for backup (or actually a subscription to mozzy or similar if you're data isn't changing too often and you have a decent net connections).

Only you can say what you're storage needs are, I take my photoography seriously and have for a few years, I shoot 12MP RAW images in large numbers and my entire library fits on a 320GB drive fairly easily still...

Bootcamp can go on a second drive if you want, seeing as you're spending silly money already you could consider getting the RAID card for best possible performance...

Bootcamp can only be on the system disk.

Secondly my setup is the same as yours except
its 6gb without the WiFi.

HDs are like so:

300Gb Veloci --> Boot + Bootcamp + Apps
1Tb --> Data, photo library, etc
1Tb --> Time Machine
1Tb --> Currently videos, but may turn into another BU HD, but probably have a 74Gb Raptor installed for something.

thankyou Concorde

so ill defo need a 1TB for Bootcamp+OSX then as my games alone come to 320GB

Reason im going for wifi its bound to be a good selling point when i come to sell it :).

so
1TB for Bootcamp/OSX
1TB for Video/Photos/Music
1TB for Time Manchine (Do the 1.5TB work ok in mp now?)
Leave last empty

I thought Bootcamp had to be on the system disk as well. Certainly said that to me when installing.

It also can't be installed on a RAID either.

That's not right - I have my bootcamp partition on the hard drive in bay 3 and that's not my system disk.

Heh, thats changed since I last read about it then :p

Maybe I got it confused with the MBP not being able to boot from anything other than the internal.

Opens up the option of two 64Gb SSDs now...

*Thinks*

(I checked the BootCamp and it seems you can install on another drive)

It's also opened the option of an SSD boot drive for me as well. Money Money money.

...cheers Feek.
