Mac Pro stock HDD Vs aftermarket

Would seem the stock HDD isn't all that fast in the Mac Pros. Must admit I've not looked into it, but I was surprised at that. 8 cores, room for shed loads of RAM, and a slow HDD?

Anyways, there's the RAID (first post) and single disk results (further down) to mull over.

Fancying another 500GB drive to raid with the one that came today now !

Thats very interesting. Sounds like its best to get your own drives and set them up by yourself. You really going to use all that storage?

The HDD in my 8-core is a 320gb WD, ive added to that 2x 500gb WD (storage)... im thinking of removing the 320gb drive and installing 2x 150gb Raptors (raided as boot drive).. but im not sure how much realworld differance it will make, also can you boot off the OSX software raid?
