Mac Pro Temperatures

I've got an early 08 Mac Pro and according to iStat menus it's typical operating temperature for the CPUs are about 35-40c.

In Fan Control I have the lower threshold set to 35c so for the most part the fans stay at a pretty much silent 600-700rpm.

What annoys me that is say if I go stream an HD movie and the temp jumps to about 45c, the fans spin up to about 2500rpm and all of a sudden it's a ******* jet engine about to take off!!

So I was wondering is it okay to set the lower threshold higher than what I have now, say at around 50c? Think the CPUs should be able to take the heat?

Yes, 50C is no problem at all if that's cpu core temps you're talking about.
I use smcfancontrol to fix fans at ~1000rpm, pretty quiet and no jet engine suprises.

I've never ever heard the fans on my Mac Pro even when encoding video and having all 8 cores at 100%.
