Ok, I got some questions about mac.

1) Can macs use any speakers?
2) Why is the cost so high yet the specs quite low?
3) (off topic) If you use a computer to watch films, is there any visual difference in a film between having an intel gma 950 and a nvidia geforce 8500?
4) Is there any type of external soundcard you can get for them?

1) Yes.
2) The specs are usually reasonable bar the graphics card. You are paying for the quality of design, hardware and the operating system. There is a bit of a premium on the Mac but no one is forcing your hand. It's more often than not justified in post-purchase (especially for first time users.)
3) Not sure on that one. I'll let someone else have a go.
4) Not sure on this either. :)
 
  1. Yes.
  2. It's a boutique manufacturer. People like the style, the software, the philosophy, and the quality.
  3. The IQ should be about the same. IIRC niether does hardware offloading of things like H.264 decoding so both should rack up about the same amount of CPU time.
  4. I dunno. I imagine so since so many are used for sound production.

1: Any 3.5mm jack will fit. I connect my MB to an expensive Marantz amp with no problems! :D
2: The specs are not bad. How many lightweight, Core 2 Duo SATA laptops can you get for £700? Don't count those crappy Acer/Dell/HP jobs that are as thick as a brick. Take any Apple product to bitsand look how well it is designed on the inside, never mind the stunning exterior looks. Oh and you get this wonderful thing called OS X - once you have used it you won't be going back to Windows...
3: No difference.
4: Yes, with things like optical out/in...but why would you need one unless you are some kind of musician?

Just go out and get one....
