This has been bugging me for a while now.

I want my MBP to connect to my server and NOT open on the desktop. Ive set the login item in system prefrences > accounts > login items.

Ive ticked and unticked the hide button but it makes no difference.

Ideas?

This is what I did:

From Finder Click "Go"
Connect to Server
type in the url/IP address and drive mapping name in the box e.g. smb://192.168.0.1/MyDrive
Highlight the above address and drag it to the desktop
That gives you direct access every time you boot, just need to type your login password when you open it

You can even change the icon to a drive one:
Right Click your Hard Drive on the desktop and choose Get Info
Click on the drive Icon at the top left of the new window and then do CMD+C
Get Info for the drive mapping and click the icon on the top left again, this time do CMD+V

Hope that's of use to you! I know it doesn't actually mount it as such but it's the best thing I have come up with since getting a Mac

It shouldn't show the Finder window, if you've ticked the "hide" button

You would think but I have the same thing with Steam. Hide obviously means something else, Apple just forgot to tell anybody!

Edit - this was apparently a bug in an old version of OS X which was fixed and then re-appeared again in Snow Leopard, the issue has been ongoing for a few years by the looks of it!
