i think it's foolish and greedy of apple not to have metal gates up, just another selling pitch leaving the lights on for people to browse by thinking i want one of these, they put the security guards life at risk in a way, not condoning the scum that do this sort of thing but by the looks of the screen shots and video it was gonna happen, bit of glass is not gonna keep a gang of grown men out

Really though, how much has this cost them? They are insured, their mark-ups are some of the largest in the industry and I'm sure they make more money keeping the stores as is (as you've mentioned). I'm not condoning robbery, I'm just saying it's not that foolish of apple.

This is why Apple Stores now prettty much only get built INSIDE shopping centres. They had so many smash and grabs in the US they're reluctant to build them with windows facing onto the street nowadays.

Apple lose a HUGE amount of stock through theft, it's absolutely unbelievable what people walk out with.

The Apple store in liverpool faces on to a street and I've walked past many a time at night and you really can see EVERYTHING they have with ease. It's on a pedestrianised street patrolled by security guards of a night though so unlikey a smash and grab would happen compared to one you could just drive straight up to, crazy video though, maybe they should start using metal shutters?
 
It's quite unusual for a store these days to be built facing the street, if they can avoid it they do.

Obviously one would think the best idea would be to oh I don't know have proper alarms on the doors, not leave 10 Time Capsules on the shop floor, unalarmed, at all times, have shutters, but that'd be too square for Apple :rolleyes: :p
 
Or shutters that closed after the thieves had entered, that way catches the culprits and also stops the lose of there products
