Mac Super drivers are rubbish

I just wanted to check if we had a theme in the thread as more people are complaining about failed burns. Also media that works/doesnt work would not be too bad. Then maybe add to sticky info if its worthy?

This is my details:

MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E:

Firmware Revision: ZA0E
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

I've never had any actual problems reading or writing with mine (usually use tesco CD-Rs or DVD-Rs)

It's just really noisy and sounds a bit wrong when I insert a disk - but I can live with that.

My late-2006 MacBook has a Matshita SuperDrive in. The clue's in the name - the thing is terrible. I appreciate it saves a few quid but I'd much rather have a Pioneer in there.

I got 100 CD's from Tescos for cheap and the MBP won't burn to any of them. Really annoying.

Moral? Don't buy cheap media ;)

In fact, I don't think I burn that many discs nowadays.. I burn 2 everytime I make a hard backup, but everything is stored on flash drives.

£16.99 for 16GB sticks = winner.
