Mac Users

My PowerMac G4 hasn't crashed in 5 years...

Maybe some people don't want to **** about trying to fix stuff that shouldn't have gone wrong in the first place?

Mac = Work
PC = Games

You have to turn it on in order for it to crash :p

Can't stand them, we have a couple at work and between them they cause more problems and are harder to set up than Windows by a long way, the font handling is poor (how hard can it be to centralize fonts like Windows) printing is hit and miss and again is different in different applications.

The only good thing about them is the design.

Oh and when they crash, they give you no reason as to why...

Windows is more stable, usable and easier to work with. Why would anyone use a Mac is beyond me!

but tbh you can do **** all on it without bootcamp!

riiight.

I use bootcamp once every 3 months or so?

In your opinion of course, but traditionally unix based systems are more stable. os x is perfectly "usable" (in the classic sense).

Meh, I've never seen a blue screen on my current PC of 4 years...

This is what the problem is really... People seem to think it's all about fixing, but if you're not an idiot in the first place your PC isn't going to crash all the time.

My problem isn't the mac itself, it's that bloody propaganda ad campaign. Nothing they say is true, it's all "omg you get lots of software on a MAC" but they fail to mention that there's a lot of better free alternatives on the PC. And don't get me started on viruses... When was the last time I had a virus... Uhmm... 2002... Again, use your brain and you won't get them in the first place.

Ah not more mac v pc arguments lol, having worked as an IT Technician for almost 2 years now and the whole company using macs, and me being a hardcore pc guy and pc gamer before that can only say that unless you want to GAME Get a PC for everything else get a mac lol, after using mac osx then using xp why would you want to go back to using windows lol, just feels like such hard work to get anywhere on a pc, the finder and keyboard shortcuts are great on mac osx
(that is of cource once you are used to mac osx, that dosent take long though)

Althought saying that i dont have a mac at home because their too damn expensive :p

I havent watched all the Mac Adverts but one i have watched is bullpoo, the one where mac dont come with preinstalled trials etc is rubbish lol, everytime i have to setup a new mac im removing office trials and mac keynotes crap etc, but its much easier on mac to remove them, select drag to bin job done :p

The Macs in our lab crash continuously, have quirky power management, the batteries have to be returned every 3 months, and in the end bootcamp is installed and either linux or windows or bth will be run 24x7 with Mac OS never getting any air time. Plus the poor people that use them have to do some amazing finger gymnastics (ctrl + alt + apple + 7) to get a back slash (swiss keyboard).

The only person who likes their MAC owns an iPod photo and nano and the iPhone, she can usually be found in star bucks. Says it all really though.

press the eject button on the keyboard
or hold down the F12 button
or click the eject icon next to the mounted drive in finder
or drag the mounted drive icon into the bin.

I mean, how do you eject a CD in OSX? I still don't know.

Drag it trash can.

Or press the keyboard eject button

Or hold down the mouse button when turning it on.

Or use open firmware commands to open the drive.

Hi Guys,

A Mac is made for people whom cannot be arsed to do **** all or there too dumb to find out how to work something.

That is so generalised as to be comical. Assumptions like that just make you look silly. Your whole post falls flat on its face, as far as I'm concerned, because of this statement.

most of the Mac laptops you see will either freeze on the log on screen and you get that silly little X appear.

I've never seen one do what you claim and I've been working with Apple hardware for years.

I use both.

I use Ubuntu on the laptop as it is free.

I use a mac at work as we get a discount and *nix is better for number crunching/multiple file processing. Plus you know, terminal rather than emulation.

I use a Desktop at home purely for entertainment.

However, I must point out I've used the laptop 90% of the time lately, mac 5%, windows 5%... I just don't have time for games.

Out of all of them I think I prefer Windows, but is that out of familiarity? OS X just doesn't feel right to me.

EDIT - I also have to point out the imac crashes more than the other two - but that is an application fault (Illustrator for example) rather than Apple.

Is there anything stopping you from formatting a mac and then installing windows on it?

I'm guessing their maybe driver issues, but at least you'll get the style of apple with software that works with everything.

I've never used a mac properly though so I can't comment on the quality of them, but I know that a lot of programs aren't mac friendly.

omgomg - but Mac users are so stupid, they don't even have right click!! I mean, how can you get anything done without right click!?

I switched to OSX because I was so sick of having to be so cautious of everything I did. Yeah, Windows is stable if you look after it, but then so's any operating system. I prefer the OSX interface, I love that I don't have to run adaware every 25 minutes, I LOVE the oodles (that's right, I said oodles) of cool freeware you can get (macsaber, anyone!? how unnecessary!).

That's not to say it isn't without its annoyances - I HATE that there isn't 1 unified web browsing solution. Firefox (my grudging browser of choice) is so damn slow and unstable, it actually makes me physically angry sometimes. Safari is quite nice, but doesn't have enough features. Camino - Firefox without plugins...why the hell would I want that?! Shiira?! don't even get me started!

Windows, for me, should be for gaming only. You don't get enough control over the OS, it doesn't listen when you implicitly tell it to do something (YES, I want the httpd process to OWN that ****ing folder!) and there are NO decent text-editors for it (as a Mac user, I'm very spoiled! don't even start me on Scite and that crap - I've tried them all, and the only half decent one is e-text editor because it's a port of TextMate!)

However, I love that it's totally skinnable without having to install some crazy, processing-hogging app, and I love how well it works on my Macbook Pro.

I use Ubuntu for work, but only because they won't let me use OSX.

All operating systems have their place, and they all have their annoying zealots that give other users a bad name - but if you can ignore the idiots that use the various hardware/OS (and I can, very easily, actually) then you'll find that none of this crap really actually matters - computers are tools, just like the people who are obsessive enough to care about this crap.

wow, I must be bored

Hi Guys,

I dont know why people with Macs... some rant

How about you step away from the keyboard and put the coffee down.

I have worked with and used Macs extensively both personally and for work and as of yet I have not seen an application bring down the OS. Sure I have seen apps crash, normally badly programmed third party rubbish, but even when the Apple apps go down the BSD *nix based OS has stayed up. So that wins over Windows in my opinion where professionally I have seen Windows get in a right state because of applications. An app should not bring down the OS.

Apples support is OK. It's not as good as some (I find Dell's business support better) but then again it is a lot better than some. Ever had to ring Acer?

Finally, I use Windows Vista Business at work and the interface sucks. XP is better to use and you cannot even compare Vista to the OS X interface.

Plus Mac hardware looks better and "Just Works [tm]" - so if you want to get on with work without the OS getting in your way and you want to look good you buy a Mac.

Oh, the way you ranted made you look like a silly 12 year old school kid who thinks his toy is better than his mates.

Parallels does that to me :( If I try and start a VM literally seconds after the dock appears, then i'll get the "you need to restart your computer" fade out :)

Bought myself an iBook Sept 2005 and at the time Laptops generally sucked big time, was a good purchase in hindsight still have it now.

As for the OP he needs to chill a bit, if those videos annoy you don't watch them!

It doesn't matter what you use, the OS is the tool and the software you use on it is the toolbox.

I love Macs, but I don't want to be associated with the repugnant Mac fanboys. :(

Quoted for truth

My PC has never crashed.

I use it for graphic design/video editing/music production and a fair few games.

I repeat, never crashed. (except when i was OC'ing and stability testing hardware)

Viruses? Never.
Spyware? Never.

i dont exactly put any effort into looking after it either, i dont go in search of pr0n and warez and guess what? it just works :D

ive used macs, all i can say is,it felt limiting (yes it was for more than 5mins lol).
