Mac Users

And this is why Macs suck. Drag a drive to a trash can to eject. Like, huh?

Mac's are form over function and mostly preffered by people with a chip on their shoulder or those who think its cool to hate MS (Who they will invariably refer to as M$).

Actually the trash can turns into a eject icon - Its just a way to keep every thing clean and organized.
I personally don't have any problems with windows or microsoft, don't care what anyone says they make good products. But like what Justin said, i don't have to feel cautious about using OSX.
One of the main reasons I switched was because we use Mac's at Uni and its the industry standard for design work.

I do get sick of people calling Bill Gates an idiot, and people mouthing off because they hate Windows - Don't use it then, at least try something different. You have no right to complain if you haven't tried Linux or OSX.

On the other hand I do like my iPod. : /

Thats actually a Apple product I dislike (along with the iPhone), the first few generations of the iPod had terrible sound quality issues. I'm sticking with my Creative players.

Just press the eject button! ;)

Real Mac users are people who just want to get stuff done, not the pretentious coffee shop visiting metrosexuals.

Macs do look good though

/me glances left at new 20" iMac and right at a 24" then looks at his Vista desktop. Boo hoo <cries>

I first switched to mac when I bought an iBook for uni. Since then I've sold my Windows rig and bought an iMac. I didn't have any major problems with Windows but since switching I've found the mac better in so many ways. So much so that I won't be going back in the near future.

And I don't even go to coffee shops, never mind take my mac with me.

My experience of using macs:

I was doing GCSE music and didn't get on well with their Mac Mini's. Really didn't like it so used a pencil and manualscript paper to do my compositions. I had to use the macs for the "compose something in 15mins" thing and about 10mins into it I pressed that "lets hide everything" button/combo.

Still atleast I got to swear (very loudly) in a exam. :D

I work on a windows laptop and use my Mac at home. The windows laptop frustrates me so much, everything seems a hassle.

I was always a PC fan boy but since I gave Mac a try, I certainly do see what all the fuss is about.

I have a mini mac here with Linux installed on it. MacOS seriously sucked, it was designed as if you were retarded and everything simple to the max. I want to have the ability to customise whatever I like, and mac just made that hard to do.

An OS should be simple - it should be like it's not even there.

There is simple and there is lacking too many features, finder for example just sucks and lacks way too much functionality. Apple want way over the top with eye candy and neglected the actual OS. Mach Kernel threading model just sucks compared to the current linux one.

Security wise it is lacking a load of features that come standard on Linux and vista these days (va stack randomization, stack canaries etc..).

Disappoints me to see people saying "oh macs are rubbish etc" when i bet half the time they've never used one.

I tried one before I bought mine and found it hard at first but it's a brilliant operating system, easy to use, boots a lot faster than my Windows desktop (which is at least double the spec) and generally more enjoyable to use.

I'm lost. Why do I give a **** about this stuff?

You don't, but as a developer I do.

What was it you wanted to do, and couldn't?

I would have liked to install a lightweight windows manager like openbox or fluxbox on it, because the current one felt way too unresponsive and sluggish on the basic mini mac steps. I know I could have done it, but to be honest I couldn't be arsed messing around that long to get it the way I wanted it.

Dawin ports, fink didn't have anywhere near as much software available as the current debian package archives either.

I totally disagree there.

The reason im buying another mac is because the finder is bloody brilliant!

Myself and my dad use OS X for photo/video/business work and we've never come across a problem.

If windows was so much better then why am I spending more to get OS X over a windows machine?

I've used both systems since I was 6.

Mac: 7.1, 8, 9.1, 9.2.2, 10.1 - 10.4 (and soon 10.5)
Windows: 95, 98, ME, XP

Can't exactly say my choice is wrong when I've had experience of both systems for 11 years can you now?

IMO if you aint used a Mac for at least a month and actually learnt the controls then you have no overall opinion at all.

Your missing the point here, I am saying macosx just didn't suite my style of use. Not that is a particularity bad OS. The lack of functionality for some people is fine if you use it for basic tasks.

As a developer your needs are bound to be quite different to 95% of people's.

Although in fairness, I work in the print trade so my needs make OSX a fairly obvious choice too :D

The reason i like Mac's over PC's is because of the operating system. I like the way that Apple take usability to be the number one focus when it comes to developing something. Workflow is vastly superior in OS X than Windows as the majority of applications work very well with one another. Dragging documents between applications is so easy and it does work in the way you expect it to (mostly!). This is what makes it so simple. You don't have to learn sets of commands for applications, you just do something as you'd expect it to be done and it's usually right :)

As a photographer you'd be hard pushed to be OS X's workflow.

Hibernation is another area which Mac's are quite a way ahead of Windows. My MacBook is never turned off, i just close the lid and it's sleeping in 5 seconds, open the lid and it's ready for use in 2 or 3 seconds :)

I dont know why people with Macs (laptops or mini's) think there better than the moon?

...yet you're the one who felt the need to start a thread like this.

In fact, I don't remember ever seeing a thread like this from a mac user saying 'omg, im so much better than all you guys on windows', just windows users making threads saying 'you think you're so much better' then listing a load of tripe i never usually bother reading.

I think the people who really have the problem here, are the windows users like yourself, who seem to have developed some kind pointless inferiority complex and try and attack a viewpoint that isn't really even there :/

Hi Guys,

I dont know why people with Macs (laptops or mini's) think there better than the moon? Youve all seen the youtube videos, and now theres some neat ones why Windows is much better than Mac (Recording Tv, Games, Many More)

All the videos ive seen There all been that the Mac has, No virus , Crashes , Software Errors, Iphoto , Imovie Etc. This is all you hear , "I can make a video in seconds but in windows its takes me hours ! " "My pc just would'nt work" Well i say ********. There people whom cannot be arsed or have the brain cells to find out the error. (read down)

A Mac is made for people whom cannot be arsed to do **** all or there too dumb to find out how to work something. Windows movie maker you can make a video in matter of minutes, Its easy to use and had enough features.

Now i agree that Macs are very good at Video editing / Photo and designing but i disagree but using them for everyday usage. There have a general good hardware spec now Intel has stepped in and gave them a big hand. But what you can do on a Mac is very limited compared to all the amazing software and hardware configs on the Computer market.

Also id like to add that Mr Steve Jobs cleary said that the Mac does not crash! totally will not crash. Well what happened? most of the Mac laptops you see will either freeze on the log on screen and you get that silly little X appear. Windows you will get the blue screen of death (still not good.. But You can find out the error and correct, Or you will get a little message appear saying some software issue. But if youve done all that then cleary hardware issue)

Which on Computer you can get a warranty replacement without the risk of your lovely mac getting lost in the post and never seeing it ever again.

Ive worked on a Mac for around 2-3 Months before i couldnt work with it anymore. For everyday usage its not correct and it doesnt make me feel happy when using it.

Now i have a very nice rig (see Sig) and Windows vista blows on Macs interface ( Oh right , Windows copied mac) < n00bs

Well, theres my argument. Feel free to view your thoughts like mine, Im sure there is a good region of mac users whom want it as something different and maybe doesnt want to be Cool because you have a white apple logo inside your laptop bag.

Fully star your swearing.
Tolien

Some people like Macs, Some people like Windows, Some people like Linux.

Subjectivness - tis' a motherfunker!

Not sure I understand why this thread was started. The pc/mac argument has been going on for decades.

Personally I haven't been near a mac since I left school 10 years ago so I haven't got a clue what they're like these days. I use a pc because I outright refuse to buy any prebuilt computer. I only build my own systems. You can't build a system to run osx (legally). I like to have the freedom of what hardware I use and being able to shop around for components. OS Windows works for me fine so I've no reason to look elsewhere.

I use macs now as i can switch it on and it just works. Sorry to quote the ads but its true.

I have been on PC's all my life up until last december. I got given a PowerMac Dual G5 at the start of december and i had a good PC then. I purchased myself a 17" macbook pro at the beginning of February and it totally revolutionized computing for me. It was everything in one, didnt need to buy any other software and it didnt crash, it just works.

What did it for me though was that i just had enough of wasting time fiddling around with OS tweaks on windows, sometimes starting up and the computer wouldnt work. I would usually have to reformat monthly to stop the system getting crammed with rubbish.

Also the amount of money it was costing me was awful, i bought the X1900XTX for £300 then only 6 months down the line i sold it for £110. I just had enough. The only reason i needed a PC was for gaming but after getting a PS3, 360 and a wii, it just doesnt compare.

I have been using my MacBook Pro for ages now and it has been awesome.

No crashes, no viruses, no bloated software that gets installed by accident. I can just switch it on and surf the internet within a minute.

I'm not a novice windows user either.

Josh
