Advice :D

Have just got my Macbook today (haven't even turned it on yet - just charging it). This is the very first Apple Mac I have owned, never even used OS X before now so would like to ask if I get stuck or have any newbie questions if anyone would so kind to answer :)

My first question being - where do I get a good codec pack to play various videos. Kinda like k-lite mega codec pack?

Cheers in advance :)

but if you search osx codecs you can get plenty.

P.s. sexy setup.. i got the same speakers.. pretty awesome i must say for the price range...

Plus.. hella sexy macbook there

Get VLC for mac - it's the swiss army knife of Video for the Mac

Rich
No - that is Perian :p

I would install the Perian codec pack along with Flip4Mac for WMVs. That way you can use the built-in Quicktime player. VLC is good for compatability but in my experience the Mac version is rather ropey both in interface and stability.

I second wush's suggestons, those two plug ins together cover just about everything video that you can throw at QT. Add Real One, which rather surprisingly, works very well on OS X; you will need that for some BBC servies such as online radio (I know the BBC are a bunch of muppets when it comes to Mac support :p )

I would like to be there to see the smile on your ace when you first fire up that bad boy. Enjoy. :)

Hi guys,

Firstly and foremost, thank you very much for your replies and suggestions. Im writing this on my macbook and all I can say is WOW!!!

I love this thing. It looks cool, feels cool to use and its very quick.
I love the way it works, seems so much nicer to use than windows. I am quickly beginning to see what all the fuss is about.

Im very happy with the purchase :)
