I don't understand? are you connecting wirelessly through airport (wireless) on the macbook pro? or using the inbuilt ethernet port?

also did the password have any capitals in? etc.

hi im wanting to connect wirelessly, but on my other pcs ive always had to hook an ethernet cable up to the laptop first then enter my password then i was connected .....im lost basically as ive never used a mac before

Go into your router, see what the actual key is, not the word you used to generate it.

Then type that into the macbook, but put $ at the start.

i dont want to sound a real idiot..."altho im sounding one right now", but with the mac i dont even know how to do anything at this very moment :( a complet n00b but when i type my password in it tries to connect but then say error in connecting

Right, see the little Wi-Fi icon at the top right corner, the one with several curved bars, click it.

Click turn AirPort on if it isn't.

Then click other, type the Wireless SSID in Network name, select the security you're using.

I'm assuming Wep Hex or Wep ASCII?

Then type in the actual wireless key like I said earlier, not the word you used to create it, but put $ at the start.

Then click ok.

Then it should connect, then you can go into your network settings via system preferences and set it to always connect to that network and whatnot.

What router is it?

the Address for most is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 etc

you type that in your internet browser and you should get a login prompt come up, then you type the username and password you created for that router when setting it up.

If you didn't set it up you'll have to ask what it is unless you want to reset your router and set the internet and everything up again.

Then there should be a page for the wireless settings, and this should have the wireless key on it.

hi its a belkin router...managed to get that page up but now cant remember my password for the belkin page to view the settings :(

try typing 192.168.2.1 into your browser.

That was the address any belkins i've set up for people.

But if you don't know the username and password for it, then you won't be able to do anything.

Did you set it up in the first place?

or did someone else?

Can you remember the word you used to generate the key?
