Hi there fellow overclockers,

I have had my macbook air 13" since Sept 2012 and its been a fantastic little laptop. Last night I noticed what looked like screen burn in/ghost imprint on the screen. It was an inch long line on the left of the screen where the windows sit above the dock. I left my laptop on for the past two days straight but I thought LCD screens didn't get burn in that you would find on plasmas or CRTs. As far as I know Airs use TN panels and not IPS panels that the PROs use.

I have given the laptop a rest over night and fortunately the ghosting mark is now gone, is this normal or something that I need to start worrying about?

Edit: I thought the ghosting line was gone but it has started to come back after a couple hours use, not as bad as yesterday but a faint line is still visible on screen when you have a darker background.

Cheers

L

I have fixed the issue by running a screen saver over night and leaving the machine off for a while afterwards, all seems well and this thread can be deleted please.

It'll return. I get it on my 2009 iMac. Usually it's the outline edge of my web browser, text editor or terminal depending on what I'm doing and what's in most use, on the left hand side of the screen. I've tried leaving it off, only for it to return. I've tried screensavers, only for it to return. Aside from an entirely new panel, I don't think there's anything to fix it. And I don't even think it's anything to do with the panel being bad. I think it's to do with how the LCD reacts to the ambient temperature from certain parts of the iMac internals (which is why it only ghosts / "retention"'s in one area).

Looks like I spoke too soon, today the line as come back again  i can only notice it on a grey background so when using mission control you can see it quite clearly. I'll give apple support a call, I have apple care so maybe they can sort me out.....hopefully

Is there a store near you, if so just run the test and go show them in store that the squares are visible, since its a technical fault it should be covered under warranty.

If its under warranty take it in to apple. I had the screen replaced on my 15" retina last year for this problem. They replaced the LG screen with a Samsung and since the problem has not come back. The only thing I did have to do was re calibrate the screen as the colours were waaay off afterwards.
