Hi all just brought my first Macbook but noticed when trying to open some apps they take over 30 seconds to open (Sky go for example) is that the normal or is something wrong with the Macbook?

Just to be clear, the long time to load is only for the first boot of the app. Afterwards, subsequent opens will be faster. It's doing some conversion to make it compatible with your M1 chip.

I wouldn't expect it to recompile via Rosetta after each reboot but even so, just close the lid when you're not using it. macOS sleep and wake is superb.
And btw, it's just Mac, not MAC. No need to capitalise it.

Yes, just close the lid. It’s always been decent but with these M1 MacBook, the waking from sleep is ridiculously snappy. There is no need to shut it down to do ‘housekeeping’.

Aye, non native apps will take a little longer to run up via Rossetta 2, however native apps will run well. To be honest, compared to my MBA 2017 and 2020 i3, the M1 base model MBA is lightening fast and is spoiling me :) compared to my R7 3700X GTX 1080Ti gaming system when it comes to how quick apps open and run. (gaming aside)
