Macbook Air or Macbook pro?

My Daughter needs an apple laptop. I know lots about windows computers but nothing about the apples. They are similar priced. Which one do I get please and why?

Jus to add, I am willing to spend about £1300 or less hopefully. Will be used for taking to school and work done there. Also facetime.
