Hello!

So I've got this macbook air and the 64gb ssd has died.
Apple want about 700 euros for a replacement which is an absurd price for a 64gb ssd.

My question is, can I, and if so where, buy a new SSD and install it myself?
I've repaired laptops and desktops before just never a mac.

Each model of Air has used a different connector on the SSD, so you'll need to know the exact model before buying a replacement.

As for the job itself, if you've done other laptops before it'll be a piece of cake. Just take a look at iFixit for the instructions and the tools you'll need.

Thanks Doug,
any idea as to where I can buy such a thing? Also does this mean that I can only put another 64GB ssd into this specific model?

Nope you can put a larger drive in - I bought a larger SSD for my 13" 2011 MBA from the auction place. The only issue I had was that they only sent me one screwdriver and you need two - one for the case and a different one for the screw holding the drive in. Swapping the bits over took about 15 minutes, and its very straightforward.

I am actually looking to sell the original 128GB drive on the MM when I get round to listing it.

It appears that this device is a MacBookAir1,1 (model A1237) from 2008.
The best I could find was a 80GB SSD anything bigger seems to be available for MacBookAir2,1 only.

Is 80GB the best I can get for a MacBookAir1,1 ?
