MacBook alternative

So, I got a friend who destroyed his MacBook in a rage fit.
Now he is looking to buy a new one and I am trying to save him some money and go with a PC alternative.
He recognizes the price/performance difference between PC and Mac but still wants a notebook that "looks nice".

Any ideas? He would be willing to spend £400-£600 for a non-Mac.

Lol why did he destroy his Macbook? Does he still have the logic board at all as mine is on the blink...

It happend to be in the way of a flying chair
I'm afraid he threw it out the same day.
