i might get myself a macbook , cheapest one as I'm skint but i can't warrant the extra £150 for the dvdrw drive could i just use my usb dvdrw when i need it its not like I burn dvd's every day just when I'm at home now and then

it should work, even though it might not say mac os x compatibilty, its bound to work, failing that you could always look up drivers for it

really like to know before i buy :) otherwise I could wait until i have the £900 just seems a waste of cash for something I aint gonna need an awful lot

How about bring it with you to an Apple store or to a friend's Mac? Every USB device I've ever plugged into Tiger has worked without event, even a Lite-On USB CD-RW drive. It's rather seamless.

All USB writers should work without additional drivers being required. The only thing is you would have to use something like Toast. iDVD will not recognise any non-Apple writers but even then you can patch it. You should be fine.

I'll be getting a MacBook soon, but I'm gonna fork out that bit more just for the extra processor speed and the Superdrive - only because I'd prefer to have my DVD RW be portable along with my mac (and I don't have any DVD-RW be it external or internal).

I'm pretty sure any usb DVD-RW should work with OSX Tiger BUT as Echo pointed out, you need the program Toast or the likes.

I would rather be abit more patient, save till I can afford a MacBook with the superdrive - add to re-sale-ability AND for all you know, the Rumour about a new processor for the MacBook maybe true and you'll be glad you waited a wee bit more?
