A mate has bought a mac book and has no fricking clue about it at all and i know nothing about Macbooks either!

So, his question is, can you run exe files on a macbook? I have some emulators i use on my xp machine which he would like to run on his system.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Short answer, no.

Long answer, you can use Wine or other alternatives to emulate Windows for some software, I've managed to run certain software in OS X that were .exe

What emulator? Dosbox? If so they have a native OSX version of dosbox.

Your best bet is to run Windows inside a virtual machine. There are plenty of free versions, the most popular being VirtualBox and VMWare Player.

You will need a Windows license, as a virtual machine still counts as a computer - so don't go using the same license as your Windows PC!

This gives you access to both OS X and Windows whenever you need it. Some virtual machine software is pretty clever and will open .exe and other Windows files automatically in the VM.

i had the same problem with my macbook.
i use a program called crossover
you can get a free trial here.
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
or you can always try "other" sites for free versions
also available is crossover games

also i use stuffit expander for opening zip and rar files
super duper for backup and copying a disk
toast 10 is the same as nero
paragon ntfs for mac, so a mac can read a windows usb/harddrive

wouldnt you be better off asking this in the mac section of this forum?
