Well i have Virgin Media Cable Broadband (4mb) and im considering buying a macbook this summer. Will there be any connection issues with the mac accessing the internet. On VMs wikipedia page, it says there are some problems with macs using virgin media bb.

Thanks

Yeah, the only issue i'd say to look out for was if you were going to use a USB modem. The drivers would be the obvious cause for reported problems.

Can't see a wireless router or ethernet connection causing problems though :)

It'll work fine provided, as already said, you don't go using the modem via USB. Don't expect any help from their support people if things go wrong though... I have to tell them I'm using Windows & IE even when I'm having problems under Linux. They don't have any scripts to read from that cover non-Windows installations :D

Indeed. I rung up Orange about my ADSL problem and despite telling them I used OS X they put me through to the Windows support people

Long story later.. I just hung up.

I only use Macs and am currently looking to sort out Virgin broadband and the only info I can see regarding the modem is that its USB. I obviously want to plug it into my wireless router (Eth only) so the question is, do the current modems supplied by Virgin have Eth out as well and/or can I just plug any old modem in (assuming the cable is rj11 to rj45)?

Edit: just did a search for Virgin modem, didnt realise this thread was in this forum, will repost in Networking...

If you have more than one computer, then you'lll need a router. However, if you have just one, then yes go ahead and put a ethernet cable from the VM router to your mac.
