Just doing a bit of research about macbook batteries as mine is getting on a bit now and really needs replacing. How much battery life do you get in terms of hours from a full charge, also how old is your macbook?

There is a program called coconutBattery which gives some useful information.

Mine is 7 months old and has gone through 173 battery load cycles and from a full charge, and 90% brightness, it will last about 2 hours, compared to the 4 hours it did when it was new.

How well is yours doing?

Mine is 3 Months old, Battery health still at 100% Currently storing around 5325mAh. Has done 51 load cycles!

223 load cycles, 10 months old, 87% capacity.
Not too sure how long it last for, depends what i'm doing, if im using it constantly for the whole day then id most likely need to charge it twice, for normal use (4 hrs a day on off) charging once a day is fine.

How often should one change the laptop battery?

So if you charged your laptop fully and then started using it, how many hours would you get out of it, just doing general internet stuff? not watching videos or anything like that.

Have you tried recalibrating the battery?

To do this:

Fully charge and then use on mains power for at least two hours.
After that, use on battery power only until you get a low power warning.
Save your work and keep using it until it goes to sleep.
Turn off or allow to sleep for 5 hours or more.
After 5 hours reconnect the power adapter and fully charge.

Do this at least once a month and it should keep the battery in good nick.

:)

That will make sure you're getting nice accurate readings but it's not required by or beneficial to the lithium ion battery.

I'm not really sure how long it lasts though, but definitely not as long as it used to!

definately more than 2 hours, maybe 3.5-4 hours? with backlight on med and wireless on.

Cheers, for the info guys. I called apple and they said that they will replace the battery under warranty, I just need to take it to a repair centre. One of them said there is a 3 week backlog which I can't do, so I will take it to the apple store on regents street to have a look at their procedure.

Just out of interest, what did you say when you asked for a replacement battery?

My MacBook now doesn't warn me when it's low on battery and so unexpectedly sleeps (or maybe it shuts down... i can't remember). I'm going to test it tonight :)

You really need to ask the question on what you want to use the computer for rather than what gets the best battery life and then buy the machine that will serve you best. Battery life really depends on how you use it.

Am i right in thinking Macbook Pro's have better battery life than Macbooks?

Also my Macbook has better capacity than it started with? 52xx/5200 and something like 10-15 loadcycles, 3-4months old.
