Turned my MacBook on this evening, the battery icon is showing as an X...

I've reset the PRAM, reseated the battery and reset something else, of which the name escapes me. Also removed the "Battery Updater" and reinstalled that.

Anything else to suggest?

gumbald asked me to type this, he's turned off the macbook and left it plugged in to try and bring the battery back to life.

He says "it was fine the other day, any ideas what causes it? Is there anything else I can do to try and fix it, I'd rather not drive 50 miles to Sheffield if I can avoid it! If it IS necessary, will they just swap it there and then?"

Cheers

They took mine off me and I had to come back in a couple of days. AFAIK there isn't anything more you can try.

Did you let the battery run completely flat? Apparently its a power management bug where the battery won't wake from its "deep sleep" mode designed to prolong the life of the battery when it has zero charge.

Sorry about that mate. :(

It was very nearly dead, turned it off just after the warning. I haven't got time to make two trips to Sheffield and back, I'll have to encourage them to be cooperative and sort it in the day while I'm available.

If it is in this "deep sleep" has it rendered the battery useless, or do they do something magical to get it going again?

Spoke to them this morning, they offered to send me one out. I took the option to pick one up from Sheffield when I'm somewhere near there on Sunday.

Refused to hold one for more than 24 hours though, so I've got to ring them back tomorrow and hope they've still got some in stock.
