Having already had my battery replaced once, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17850061, I've just turned my MB on to find a slightly different message - "not charging". Not had it on for a few weeks, but I know it was approaching 0% when I last used it. It's now showing 0% and won't budge from there. Power adapter is showing as green and not dim which is different to I read others have reported.

I've reset the SMC and reseated it obviously. Any other ideas?

Anybody else experienced this? Is it new battery time, again? I hope an AASP can do this in Hull, rather than me having to make another trip to Meadowhall just to pick up a battery.

I know the documentation states that when not using the battery for extended periods you charge / deplete the battery to 50%.

Sounds like it's run so low it won't accept a charge aka dead :(

As a last resort you could zap the PRAM. Worth a shot if the journey to the nearest shop is tedious.

I'll have a go at the PRAM. It was 2 weeks maximum, a busy one then holiday - shouldn't be enough to kill a battery! Sounds like two outcomes of the same problem though as you've said; running so low it doesn't know what to do. Annoying that I've now had two that have done it! I got an illiterate response from the AASP saying that they won't be ordering any parts before 5th January, but trying to get them to look at it before then so I can get one ordered as soon as they can...

Did pretty much the same thing. Went to Australia, came back, dead battery. They tested my logic board (which turned out fine) and replaced the battery.

Just noticed I posted in that thread also. Touch wood my replacement has been fine, but I hardly ever let it discharge. I mean I can literally count on one hand how many times it's discharged to 0% since I bought it in 2006.

There's a program, called coconutBattery, that you could use to see the Macbook's current battery charge and health. :)

Last time I checked, it was 99% health! I'll have another look with coconut and see if there's anything suspicious there though.

AASP confirmed today that it was the battery. That's two that have broken themselves in 18 months, the latest one only managing 44 cycles and at 99% health the last time I checked. Oh well, fresh battery tomorrow!
