Just got a macbook off ebay and the battery doesnt seem to work. The guy didnt mention it on the listing which is odd because he cant have thought that I wouldnt have noticed that the second you unplug the macbook it turns off. I have read a fair bit about problems with the macbook batteries. Is there any way I can sort this. Coconut battery dies every time I try to start it to see what the matter is. No lights show on the battery and it literally dies the moment the power cord comes out.

Any ideas guys, really like the computer but a laptop does need a working battery or its pretty pointless.

Ok ive done as much as i think possible to get this to work. All of the fixes that people have mentioned etc. I managed to get coconut battery to work by using a slightly earlier version and the chage comes in at -1. That cant be a good sign.

Now the laptop is about 14 -15 months old so is outside of warrenty. Isnt there a law that says a product must be fit for use for a reasonable amount of time regardless of warrenty.

A battery dying after such a short period cannot be right and there seems to have been a huge number of people who have come accross this issue. That points to a manufacturing problem rather than a user abuse.

can I talk to apple about this with any chance of getting a replacement battery?

Well, my macbook battery did this after 4months of use. I phoned Apple, and they sent me a replacement for free.

The same happened last week, and I phoned yesterday to see what could be done, and as I have a 3 year warranty (bought using student discount) they are sending me another free replacement. Otherwise the battery is £70 from Apple.

Sorry I can't be much of help to you!

No worries matey, I got hold of them and they basically said that the battery can die after any amount of time, suck it up and pay us for a new one.

I tried to explain that a little over a year of use is rubbish for any battery but they were not budging.
