Macbook black ram upgrade

It is cheaper to buy a 512mb basic specced macbook. Though you cannot sell those 2x256 to anybody! Then identify the modules you need on crucial and then froogle them... as crucial is not the cheapest for crucial memory!

They are pretty low at the moment, much lower than when I last checked! Around Christmas 2x1gb was at 180 on the crucial site, but now its around 84!!

The downside with buying the 512mb model though is you only get a combo drive, a 60gb HDD and a slower processor!

What kind of memory is it exactly? It's so confusing! What's the best search terms to use?

Use the wizard on the crucial site, then bung the spec ram it gives you into froogle!

OSX is just sluggy as hell in my opinion. Same mac running OSX and Feisty Fawn with 1GB and linux seriously outperforms osx in responsiveness even at low mem usage. Apple make really nice hardware but they got a way to go before they catch up with linux in software performance.

the current macbook pro's say 3GB ram is the maximum but is that down to the hardware of software?

If its the OS then will the new one be able to support 4GB?

As I can get a 2GB stick for £120, so £240 for 4GB without selling my current 2GB.

Its a hardware limitation on both the MacBooks and the Pro's AFAIK. It is a hardware limitation.

Theres a 3Gig limit as the Intel chip used in the MBP can only address 3.2 GB, so apple just advertise it as 3GB. If you put in 4GB the you get 3.2.

The OS can address much much more as evidenced by the Mac Pro's

Looks like ill just get a 2GB stick and sell my 1GB stick then, make it a nice 3GB, hopefully see some improvements in video editing and 3D
