Well i have one of the first MacBook's (bought it on release) and it's a bit of a horrible colour now! I've been putting off sending it back as i'd be without a machine for weeks.

Has anyone sent theres back for replacement? How long did it take? and what did they replace? Also, is it possible to have the work done in a store somewhere whilst i wait?

Thanks

Hi,
Which part of it is off colour? Do you have any photos?
I have a few dark patches on my macbook, would just like to compare, to see how bad it is.

Same as everyone elses really, it is discoloured to the right of the touchpad.

it would usually require the whole of plastic case to be replaced, it is almost impossible to clean off

I'm not sure if Apple replace cosmetic issues or has that changed

Yes, they do.

It was a thing a while back.. they do a free change of the discoloured area + the screen bezel :)

Any ideas if this can be done at an Apple service place, or do i have to send it off?

i think you might have to send it off... you might get a new laptop instead of a repaired one... make sure you back up your stuff

:)

That's ok, i mirror my MacBook using SuperDuper! :)

I might phone them tomorrow and see what they say. Does anyone know the Applecare number?

totaly unrelated but i was wondering when lepord comes out will be beable to keep out xp installs? or do oyu think we will have to reformat? ( myabe i should start a thread LOL )

You send your machine off (takes 1 - 2 weeks)

You will have the same machine back.

The link is on the Apple site :) (under support)

I got mine replaced when it was in for other repairs. If you have a service centre near you they will probably do it without you having to send it off.

Does anybody know if you can actually just take it into a service centre? I can't really be without my laptop for two weeks as it's pretty much essential for work, but I'd really like to get a clean case - it looks pretty bad at the moment even though I'm generally a very clean & tidy person!

Well when the hard drive broke I phoned ahead but when the battery died I just took it in. I'm pretty sure you can phone apple or look online to find your nearest service centre.

How does that work? I've replaced the original hardware in mine with 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk, if I ever sent mine off for major repair and they had to replace it what would happen to my installed hardware? I assume they replace it with one of the original specification?

I'm pretty sure they don't guarantee you will get your mods back. It's a general rule of thumb you should keep your old bits from a Mac in case you have to send it back to Apple.

Apple wont repair your machine while there is 3rd party hardware installed. Remove the HDD + RAM and reinstall the old stuff.
