A while back I left a wet towel (don't ask) on my macbook. And from then everytime I start it up I get a flashing folder with a question mark in it.

I've looked that Apple site and followed their instructs (reset NVRAM etc..)

But no luck. Aparently it means that the system can't detect the OS.

Even when I put the OS X install disk 1 in the DVD drive it still doesn't work.

Can macbooks boot from external DVD's?

Uh Oh Spaghetti-Os!

It may be a simple fix if you can get it to boot from the OS X DVD.

My advice (being that you've already dismantled it) is to spray it with compressed air to try drying out any moisture.

Hope it gets sorted soon.

Ensure you keep the can level or it sprays wet stuff out which is bad.

Well that was clever! :p

Turn it off ASAP take everything out that comes out easily, battery etc, and leave it to dry somewhere for a day or two.

Slap everything back together and hope!

Damage might have been done already tho! :(

Well this was a while back (about a month). I noticed about a day after (the towel was covering the macbook). But as luck would have it, I was off to a week long maths workshop that very morning :( At first it wouldn't switch on at all, but a couple of hours with the charger plugged in made it boot to the flashing folder stage.

Ended up buying a Toshy to replace it, with Vista

It's dismanteled to the stage where the keyboard can be lifted from the case (see ifixit for images). I might just put on the bay and see what offers I get.

Or buy a mini mac and transfer the 2GB RAM and HDD. Damn shame though I loved it to bits. Best laptop I've owned by far. If my bonus is decent this year might get one of the new macs.
