Macbook firmware update

Just did mine and it went fine :)

My MacBook generally runs actually quite cool if your just webbrowsing using Airport without it plugged into the mains (currently my CPU temp is 41c mains powered which is easily acceptable). I have had the mooing on a couple of occasions, but its just the fans being very sensitive to temperature changes which I hope this firmware update will have fixed :D

*edit* Other people are experiencing idle temperature drops :D *edit*

Well it went ok, and there no more moo-ing!

Fan does stay on all the time now, but you cant tell unless you stick your head on the keyboard.

Temps also seem to be down, though its only been on for 11 minutes so far, so will have to see if it heats up in an hour or so.

I've never seen anything like 41C on mine though, doesnt ever seem to drop below 50c!

EDIT - The fan is now super loud!!

EDIT - Guys dont bother, mine is sat on my lap sounding like its going to take off.. Temps have dropped by 10c, but I'd rather it be hot and moo-ing at me then it sound like this :(

I'm pleased with it. Idle temps seem to have dropped by at least 10C and there's no mooing which was very often for me (Youtube seemed to hit that spot for temps). :)

Haven't noticed any particular change in temps, but I've had no mooing since the update. No problems with noise either... other than the update app putting the fans on full.. it's one loud little machine on full tilt! :)

i think they mean the whining noise that has been known to affect the macbooks, man i so wanna buy one, but i just know a week after i've bought it they will have released one with a backlit keyboard or something similar :(

Just get one! :D

No point waiting, You'll more or less get your money back anyway if you decided to sell it and get a 'newer' one.

i'll probably buy one when i get paid at the end of the month.

Car insurance and a car payment = a dented wallet :(

Used the black one at the shop, so sexy....so tempting.....but its more expensive because its black, but it'll match my new phone, my pc, my tft's my iRiver (Black)

Kinda black theme at the minute.

I remember when i had a white theme

iPod
iBook
T630

lol :p

Please forgive me ignorance, but what the hell is mooing? I have had a mac book for about 2 months and I dont ever remember it going making a cow noise? :D

It happens when the fans rapidly speed up and then slow down (which usually happens at a certain temperature when the fan is turned on, it instantly goes below that temperature and so turns the fan off).

This update probably tells the fan to stay on for longer when it reaches that temp so it can cool it better.

Just run the update.

Mine is now 10-15degrees cooler, but the fan is on constantly after 10mins. Tis fairly quiet tho, not whirring loudly.
