Well, looks like the hard disk in my MacBook has given up the ghost!

Everything froze this afternoon, so I re-started. It tried to boot 3 times (getting a black screen saying 'please re-start your computer...' type messages), and all it does now is sit at a grey screen. The hard disk is also making some horrible grinding noises when it starts up... my girlfriend heard them across the room!

Starting up from the Leopard CD it doesn't show any hard disks to install onto, and Disk Utility only shows the CD too...

The only good thing about it is that I have my last back-up from a week ago that I did before doing a clean install of Leopard, so I've only really lost a few emails.

I could take it back to Apple because I've only had it since January, but I think I'd prefer a bigger and faster hard disk. So, can someone confirm which one's work ok, and which is the best?

The one in there is the 160gb version.

TIA

I have a 120GB Seagate Momentus in mine and it works well. The one I took out was a Toshiba.
