My Macbook had a fit and a spinning ball / wouldn't boot over the weekend and after pulling the HD out and checking it, it comes up with a warning that it can't be repaired and reformat is needed. Now I've back up all the files that I need as the HD is still readable in in my dock.

All this is good in one sense as it made me put my SSD in it as I've been dithering over it for a while.

Question is though, what caused the drive to do that and stop working/not booting and what mac prog can I use to check the drive its self block by block? Its a WD 320GB 7200, though I forget exactly which type.

Could be a number of things as it's pretty hard to tell with a HDD. Might simply be a duff drive that was prone to breaking, might be from the ware and tear of being lugged around in a laptop or if you analyse the drive it could simply be a software fault.

Anyway came in here to say get trim enabler for that SSD (If you haven't already that is) :)
