I have a Macbook which has a mini-dvi port on it. I also have an LCD TV with HDMI which is currently hooked up to my PC with a HDMI to DVI adapter.

I want to hook my macbook up to my LCD TV - am I right in thinking that I should just be able to get a mini DVI - DVI adapter and it would work? Or am I trying to use too many adapters at once?

If this was the case would I need to purchase an Apple adapter or are there 3rd party ones?

You're right in saying that you'll need a min-dvi to HDMI adapter, but I wouldn't recommend running it with two adapters at once. I'm sure a quick search on the magical auction sight should ifnd you want you need for about 5-15 pounds.

At the risk of sounding really daft - what are you searching for? I need (want) a cable like this and it seems to silly to buy an adapter and a cable when I could get it all in one. I tried "mini-dvi hdmi" and "mini dvi hdmi" and even "macbook dvi hdmi" and couldn't find anything :(

As far as I know Mini-DVI is a proprietary Apple connection so I dont think a MiniDVI > HDMI exists. They may release one when the Cinema Displays start featuring HDMI in.

Theres no problem with getting a MiniDVI > DVI cable and a DVI > HDMI adapter from a functional standpoint. I might look a mess but look on the bright side, you have two adapters you could use in the future for all sorts of things. :)

Yeah, I guess it's a digital signal so as long as there isn't too much loss it should be ok. I got two dvi/hdmi cables (one for MacBook, one for Mini) for £8 inc P&P - bargain! Now I've got to find the Mini-DVI adapter, I'm not paying Apple's silly price for it.
