My frient dropped his macbook at the airport. The insurance company want to take a look at it but there is very very sensitive data on the hard drive.

It boots, the screen flickers quite a lot. For some reason, his password is no longer working, not the ones he can remember anyway.

Is there an admin account I can use or bypass this somehow?

I have no discs at present.

Alternative I guess is to take the drive out and move the data from it to a PC or other mac?

Would help if you'd posted the right thing in the title, a powerbook is not even in the same category as a macbook, let alone the right generation of system.

You can reset the password using the install cd but you will need the cd, if the data is so sensitive it really should be backed up, and I cannot see any reason they would have a problem with removing the disk, but check first.
