I've been waiting for the new MacBook pros to come out for last couple of months ... after seeing the ridiculous prices I've decided to go for the current ones as I can get them through work with a really good discount. I've been looking at the MacBook 12inch because of how thin they are and portbable however I think I would regret getting it due to the small screen as it will be my main laptop, So the question is do I go for the 13inch or 15inch MacBook Pro with the 256gb hdd. Is the 8gb and i5 processor in the 13 more than enough for most situations and is the screen size ok as I have always had 15inch screens or would people recommend I pay the extra for the 15inch with better processor and more ram to "future proof" it ?

Could always get the 13 and use the remainder cash to get an external screen. I have a 13inch MBP and use a 24" Dell screen connected to it for work and for me it works really well.
Of course if you're doing video editing the spec of the 13 might not be good enough but without know what work you're doing on it makes it tricky. Of course if you're just a home user get the 13, personally I find it plenty big enough for normal browsing.

It will be mainly be used at home for web browsing, but also needs to be capable of photo editing and only very occasionally video editing but shouldn't be anything that would slow the laptops down. Strangely the 15inch is £1120 with discount the 13 is £980, £140 difference I think settles that the 15 would be the best option then :)

For light usage, either should see you good for years.

I would plump the extra for the 15" if you can afford it. Definitely worth £140 extra.
