Does anyone know how to do this from USB?

I have formatted a USB stick with GUID, copied the osx files, library etc from the CDROM onto the stick and tried to boot it to install it (its a totally new hdd) and it doesnt seem to boot when I press the optino key on startup.

Am I doing it right?

Did you just do a straight copy from finder or did you do a restore through disk utility onto you usb? If its not the latter that'll be why its not booting the usb.

You need to "restore" the image from CD to your USB stick rather than copy files across. Use disk utility for this.
