i have a macbook (new alumminum one) and I went into town to get an adaptor to use with my monitor, I bought the one to dvi because I have a VGA monitor, and currently use a dongle with my pc graphics card, so I thought I would be able to use that.

the macbook detects the monitor fine and the resolution but nothing displays on the monitor screen, it says no signal input.
Anybody any ideas?

You mean you're going display post -> dvi -> vga -> monitor? It could be the dvi to vga adapter as I think they only work if they're plugged straight into the back of the computer. You might be better off with the display port to vga adapter.

im using macbook > dvi adapter > dvi to vga dongle > vga cable to monitor

nothings showing on the screen but the macbook detects it..
I got the dvi as I thought If I were to upgrade It would be better to future proof it that way...

The mini display port to DVI adapter doesn't have the pins to support an analogue signal it has a digital only configuration.
