Really noob question I know. I am moving house and need to get a new broadband setup. I currently have cable wireless router which is hardwired to my pc and I use my Macbook for wireless access.

I am looking at orange or AOL for the new provider which both provide a free wireless box. However, both say "our routers are not compatible with Macs" I presume this is only if hardwirded as I cannot see why a wireless connection can distinguish what type of router it is.

Does anyone use a wireless mac with these providers?

Cheers

They should work fine, they all comply to the same industry standards, they just be bothered to test if it works, you should be able to connect fine via wireless connection.

You should be able to connect via both cat5e and wireless. There are universal industry standards which are accepted on all the major platforms — TCP/IP, 802.11 etc.

You may experience issues installing any setup software which might come with the router (although I'm still convinced this is the most useless idea ISPs have ever come up with) and likewise you might have problems using any web-based router control panels using OS X, but otherwise you should have no problems whatsoever.

I added a MacBook Pro to the network at work earlier via wireless, took under 30 seconds. Using a BT ADSL Router. Obviously you'll need AirPort.
