MacBook - no external screen when running off battery

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this, maybe it's a 'feature'!?

I am running my macbook with an external TFT, and the MacBook itself closed using a wireless KB/Mouse. Now, this all works fine until I unplug the power from the laptop, when the system proceeds to go to sleep, and when woken, will go straight back to sleep again (unless I plug the power back in!)

This only happens when running it on the external screen, not just on its own.

Any ideas!?

Regards,

James

Just wondering, what settings are you on under the Battery Settings (Power Management?) ?

I'm not too sure myself but I'm guessing you're on power saver mode?

Nope, I'm on high performance.

From reading the apple support literature, it implies you need a power conection for the external display (on its own) to work

AFAIK, its considered to be a feature- You're not expected to be using an external monitor, kb & mouse without access to power.
(Despite the fact they totally forgot projectors among other things :p )

From Mac help:

Using your laptop computer with the lid closed
With some portable computers, you can use your computer with the display closed. For example, you might want to close your computer when using it to give a presentation on an external monitor connected to your computer.

To use the computer with the lid closed, you must connect it to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The power adapter must be plugged into the computer and an outlet.

To operate your laptop with an external monitor attached and the display closed:
Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to your laptop.
Connect the power adapter to the laptop and an outlet.
Close the laptop display to put the computer to sleep.
Connect your laptop to an external display.
Wait a few seconds and then press any key on the external keyboard to wake the laptop.
