last nite my macbook would not charge at all. i had been playing football manager for bout an hour and a half using up the full battery.

when i come to charge it up at about 7% battery life nothing happens, the little light on the charger doesnt come on. the laptop was hot from being used.

this morning i try it again and it charges fine, its been turned off all night.

did it not charge just because it was hot?

No idea about that sorry, but in a sort of related question my MacBook really struggles with Football Manager, I haven't tried 2011 on it yet, but 2010 was virtually unplayable even with only a couple of leagues selected and a small database. I'm forced to play 2011 on my desktop PC because my MacBook simply can't handle it. The CPU also gets very hot, at least to the 70 degree mark so I just don't play it on my laptop anymore.
