MacBook or iMac

Depends on the budget.

The Macbook has the less powerful graphics card, RAM and HDD space.

The iMac you cant carry around with you but is 20-24" and a better spec.

Recently had same similar situation with iMac or Macbook Pro, decided to get the iMac and will be looking at them more :).

Depends what you want to do with it. Are you likely to travel with it?

Yup - thats probably the most important question to ask yourself.

Although the iMac is 'portable' to a point - its really not a portable machine.

I'm using a 2.2ghz macbook with 4gb ram and i love it! Its great. I'm using it as a desktop machine at the moment with a display, keyboard and mouse - but I love the fact that i can just unplug it at any time.

Mac os is a dream to use as well...

Good luck!

They're both great machines but in order to answer your question you have to decide what you want it for. If mainly static you don't need portability it is undoubtedly the iMac that wins but if you need to lug it around the MBP is the daddy. However, MBP are extremely nice and I actually sold my iMac to get a MBP because I was moving between two locations. I sacrificed a very small performance hit for portability and have no regrets.

The bottom line is simple, if you need to move around with your computer MBP, if not iMac.

With the MacBook like someone said above you can plug it into an external monitor and use it like a desktop machine, thats what I do. So if you really need a dedicated GFX card or better CPU then go for the iMac, but the extra portability would be nice. And you might even be able to spend some money on a apple keyboard and a nice external monitor :).
