Macbook or Macbook Air?

Shouldn't really be an issue though should it?
The Macbook is considered a 'premium' product when compared to Windows machines yet is has:

- No Blu-Ray
- Only 2 USB sockets
- No firewire
- No Flash reader
- No expansion slot

It's lacking features you can get on bottom end laptops made by random manufacturers. The lack of ports/expandability is just bad design.

The lack of blu-ray on all Apple products is particularly poor given it used to be regarded as the platform for media pro's.

Yeah and they may wonder why people go the "hackintosh" route.

I was wanting Blu-Ray so i could potentially connect to my TV and use that rather than get a standalone Blu-Ray player.

Oh well.

Don't really want to go back to a Windows laptop, did think about a Sony with Blu-Ray which would be a great feature. Just wish Apple had stuck Blu-Ray drives in their MacBooks.

Agree'd does a lot to discredit Mac's as a viable HD editing platform.

blu-ray support (the lack of) is really ****ing me off. I have an external Blu-Ray drive, but MacOSX doesn't support playback. I have to boot up into windows to play my blu-ray videos.

It's a joke.

I have a rev B MBA (1.86ghz SSD version) which goes really very well with my 24" iMac. I have power and space and ports on my iMac and amazing portability on my MBA. I really love it. I wouldn't however recommend a MBA as a main machine - the rev B's are surprisingly able but the lack of ports and built in drive means it really would be a a pain. A macbook is a much more sensible and cost effective option for a main machine.

Not sure whether to go for the latest macbook, i may just go for a black macbook in the last incarnation. Save some £'s. I don't really think i can see any advantage of the latest one.
No difference in the hard drives being any faster nor are the superdrives etc, and what i don't understand is why the old macbooks had a 2.0/2.4ghz chip & the new ones max out at only 2.4ghz why didn't they go for a newer faster chip like in the iMac 2.8ghz etc?

Graphics...... DDUUUHHH

So you're saying the advert on the Apple website is true by saying
5x faster NVIDIA graphics performance
than the previous generation of macbooks! Yes i'll give them credit for a new screen being backlit (Wow) & All-new, smooth glass Multi-Touch trackpad & Precision aluminium unibody enclosure.

Yes I was refering to the Macbook, not the Macbook Pro, as that's what the previous guy was talking about as far as I know.

The 9400 will obviously be slower than the 8600GT in the previous Macbook Pro.

Correct, they showed this at the "Spotlight turns to Notebooks" event in one of the slides.

Apple claim 55% performance of the old top-of-the-line MBP (8600M GT), using the new discrete card (9400M) in the MacBook.

Notice the 11% of the old Intel chipset used in the plastic MacBooks.. that's a HUGE difference!

Well took the plunge and paid out for the new macbook, couldn't afford the higher spec one as i've some funds to save for my first child on the way.
So i've unpacked the new macbook, any advice on how long to charge the battery first time?
Thanks

It's a Lithium Ion battery so it really doesn't matter about first charge times etc.

Apple do recommend a full discharge, sleep mode for 5 hours then full charge to 'calibrate' the battery. In reality all this does is to reset the information about the battery capacity when you click on 'Power' in the About this Mac menu.

Enjoy...
