I am in a bit of dilemma here i want a new apple laptop but cannot decide on the macbook black or the macbook pro.

I am mainly going to be doing simple stuff like word processing, internet, email etc. What do you guys reckon i should do? Will the macbook black be fine for the new apple operating system or will it be hindered in some way. How is the screen size for daily stuff that i will be doing.

Any help would be much appreciated guys

The MacBook sounds as though it fits your needs.

If your not using RAM and processor eating apps, like photoshop for example you should be fine. The MacBook will do what you want to do very easily.

Also it will be fine with Leopard when it comes out. If anything it will improve the speed of the MacBook.

My brother's just bought a white mid-spec Macbook for some medium-heavy usage (programming, VMs, software testing and the usual email, browsing, other bits and pieces) and I was impressed at how fast it is. The screen is fine for most things, though he's always planned to link it up to a 20" external monitor for work.

I'd have said that a Macbook Pro would probably be overkill for 'simple' usage :)

yeah they have there bad points... but the actualy material there made from is much stronger that the white model, ive had both and the black ones are tougher for sure.

tbh if i was buying again i would just got for the mid range white one and save some pennies :)

but saying that i love my black mac :)

its true what the say about going black and not going back after you have gone black

Not to drag this thread back from the Dead, but I'm currently suffereing severe stress trying to decide between a Macbook and Macbook pro. Basically I have a MPB Core Duo (the first version) and it's not too bad really, does most thigns I need but slightly slowly.

Now I need the 15" screen and graphics for Aperture but I also spend a lot of time using it in coffee shops, on the train etc...so I'm trying to decide between just buying a new Santa Rosa macbook pro to do everything at a brisk pace and just living with dragging it around, or buying a macbook for all the on the road stuff and sticking with my current macbook pro (reformatted I'd imagine) for Aperture and photo stuff.

Thoughts? Anybody?

New Santa Rosa MBP has over 4 hours of battery life.. depending on use (and fans speed!). The downside is that it's a hot potato - both in terms of hot-lap and it sticks out like a sore thumb as being expensive.

A black MB looks like many other laptops so blends in a little more.

For train usage, the 15" MBP and MB would both fit size wise.

Last point is that the SR MBP will give 4GB to the OS. Which would be a boon for your image manipulation needs.

there will prob be a mojor revision to the notebooks about then..

Really, I'd doubt it given the Santa Rosa revision is barely weeks old, also you can't really shrink a 15" screen much so I'm not convinced a redesign is on the cards or that it would benefit me a great deal...
