Macbook OSX to LCD problems

Hi Guys,

I purchased a mini dvi to vga adapter for my macbook yesterday and want to link the macbook to my lcd hdtv.

It works perfectly in XP via bootcamp but in OS X I cannot get the damn thing working, if I plug in a standard lcd computer monitor it works straight away, but it just doesn't like the LCD tv! I thought this would be plug and play, XP had no problems.

If I hotswap the lead from the computer monitor to the tv then the picture comes on the tv briefly then flickers off once the mac has recognised it and I get "NO SIGNAL".

Anybody any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?

Many thanks

Brendan

Also is there a maximum screen size that a Macbook can output to ?

For example if i buy that cable could i hook it up to my 32¨ Samsung LCD ?

Macbook can ouput up to 1900x1200 or something daft when lid is closed so not a problem with screen size.

I think my problem is something to do with edid, can it be disabled in osx?

The MacBook can output up to 1920x1200 (24" LCD monitor resolution, far higher resolution than your average LCD TV). This is in addition to the built-in screen – there is no need to run in closed-lid mode – and the MacBook isn't limited to running in mirrored mode unlike the old iBooks.

To the OP: What is the native resolution of the LCD TV? I assume you have fiddled around with all of the display settings on the MacBook ("Detect Displays" etc.)?

Hi there,

Native res is 1366x768, tryed pretty much every setting going :(

My brother got me a mini-dvi to normal dvi earlier so I will have to give that a try later. Currently using mini-dvi to vga.

Reason I picked vga is because dvi port is currently used, but if this fixes the problem I will have to get a dvi splitter.

Cheers
