I have the plastic body MacBook which is about 2 years old. I have noticed that on the top near the hinge 2 symmetrical cracks have appeared on either side of the case. Each about 3 cm long.
Anyone else had a similar problem ? Will apple repair this as it appears to be a design fault and I know it has not been dropped.

My housemate had this exact problem fixed on his white MacBook just this week. Apple acknowledge it as a design fault so should repair it free of charge.

Officially I think their acknowledgement only stretches as far as the top case, but as above, take it in and they should do it. If not get stroppy, Apple repair most things if you moan hard enough =]

i have read a fair bit on the net about this now. it seems that the case will crack again. this is why they stopped selling the unibody macs. a few people have said that they have repaired the case 3-4 times and then requested a refund or a different model.

can this be true? will apple just replace the whole thing?

Not on the first repair. It'll take at least a couple of breaks for them to consider completely replacing it.
