Hi Everyone,

My brother in laws hard drive suffered a complete failure and was not recoverable he has purchased a new SSD but we're not sure on the process to do a clean install on a blank hard drive. If the Mac is turned on with the new SSD in we just see a folder with a ? in the middle.

I'm guessing we need to buy a new OS and change the boot options?

Burn a OS X bootable USB on another machine, then boot the Mac with the USB installed and hold down the 'C' key.

Before installing, dip in to Disk Utility by accessing it from the menu bar to format the SSD as a GUID partition and then continue with the installation :)
