Hi all i hope you can help me...

Apple software/hardware? not too sure...

I have a 2009 macbook and i want to upgrade the hd to ssd.

So following a few guides i formatted the ssd using disk utility and then cloned the original drive to the ssd using SuperDuper.

The SSD is a crucial MX300 750Gb which according to the crucial site is ok for the laptop. Im pretty sure the ssd is ok.. ive tried copying files to it and then running them etc

But after changing out the drive it wont boot up and sits on the apple logo with a spinning wheel. If i hold alt during boot up i do see the new drive but when i select it, it sits on the spinning wheel.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm not too familiar with OSx as i use it for windows mostly. Ive given up on trying to get bootcamp cloned for now given that i cant get OSx to work..

Thanks for any assistance!

What format did you format the SSD in? If you can get to Disk Utility again, try repairing permissions :)

As EVH says, check the format of the SSD in Disk Utility. If you can't boot from the SSD, reconnect the HD (by USB if you have to) and boot from that to check.

It needs to be GUID.

Hi, I used the Mac OS extended (journaled) i think i've managed to install OSx from scratch. Im on a very old version - 10.5.8 i dont know if that is the issue.

Having to start from scratch wont be so bad as long as the ssd works :)

You should be able to upgrade to the latest OS anyway, so just run the "App store" app and grab all the updates. I prefer a fresh install, but I'm a freak for a reformat :p

Hmm, i cant see the app store..

It appears i need to buy 10.6 to be able to then get all the other updates to the latest OS. Its only £15 thank god... not like 100 for windows.

Thanks guys!

You can also access it by going to the Apple logo (top left) > App Store
