So I'm looking to pick up a new MBP and am specifically looking at the nTB 13".
My initial thoughts is to upgrade it to a 512gb SSD and upgrade the RAM to 16gb.

What I'm wondering is how warranted is 16gb over 8gb?

My thinking is that I would like it to be pretty future proof and also the fact that as the RAM is not upgradable I might as well max it out now...

I had a 2009/10 MBP which originally came with 4gb. After a few years I upgraded it to 8gb and it made the laptop completely usable even today. If I couldn't have u[graded it then the machine would have had a much shorter useful life. Given that you can't now upgrade them I'd suggest increasing it as much as you can afford to as it will give it mean it's a more usable machine for longer.
