Im looking at buying a bag for my macbook pro. Since I am a student (and I travel a lot), it is important that the bag wouldnt look like its made for laptops (I want it to look discreet). Im also after a backpack type since ill be putting school stuff/ travel stuff in it. Should privode good protection. Any recommendations?

edit: also would you recommend me to get a crystal case? or a sleeve?

Get a second skin and a normal rucksack that you'd use for taking your stuff to the gym. I even have a Cannon's gym thing for the lockers on mine.

Crumpler make some nice bags, I have one of their shoulder bags and its very comfy to carry around even when full. Not as discrete say as just a plain old rucksack but it doesn't advertise the fact you are carrying a laptop too much.

what do u mean by second skin?

thanks ill have a look

Avoid Tech Air bags at all costs.

noted. thanks

second skin are cases that have a memory foam casing that protect the laptop but have no straps

after a quick google, it's the Tucano am I right? looking at the pictures, it seems similar to a neoprene sleeve. do i need to remove the mbp from the skin when i need to use it? if not does it provide enough air circulation at the back part of the mbp?

The second skin things are good if you want to just protect it from bumps and scratches inside a normal bag but a proper laptop bag with a decent amount of padding offers far more protection imo.

You can get some that are a bit tougher with harder/more foam around the laptop but at the end of the day it is still loose in a rucksack.

get a foof for it first, then a decent bag for it plus your accessories (phone/wallet/stuff)

Be COOL.

Do tell. I've had mine not far off a year now and it seems quite solid.

Bought a £45 bag. Got delivered, all was well, put my laptop in it and it was pretty secure. The stitching on the right strap started to come loose. I wasn't rough with it (had a £1300 laptop in it so caution was the aim of the game).

Got it replaced for a brand new bag. Was even more cautious with this one and the same thing started to happen again.

It probably sounds like I've been too rough with swinging it over my shoulder but treating the second one with kid gloves resulted in the exact same thing.

Just poor build quality/stitching in a vital area.

The 17" MBP is 2cm bigger than the 15" MBP (on each dimension; length and width), hardly a behemoth! ;)

Hmm, in that case maybe the Pretty Boy is for me. I only see one for 17" laptops though, any 15" owners doing okay with that bag?

Sorry OP didn't mean to hijack your thread, I'm in the same position as you :)

I was thinking about getting a TechAir bag when I was looking for one, was put off by the price though... well that and the fact that I found that Golla made some really funky designed cases.
