I need a new battery for a 15" Macbook Pro. I've looked at the Apple store site and the reviews weren't great: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MA348G/A?mco=NDcxMzc1NQ

I've Googled and saw that there are some place that sell compatible batteries for half the price. If the original battery isn't that good then surely a compatible one won't be any worse, but might save me some money.

Any thoughts?

I went through the same process a few months back. Ended up getting an genuine Apple battery from eBay (HK seller) for less than half the UK price.

I tend to ignore the reviews for peripherals on the Apple Store - you're likely to get whingers who don't like their laptop rather than people who bought the item and give objective feedback. It's a battery, either it works or it doesn't.

Mine is. Shipped in a proper Apple OEM parts box, utterly identical to my original battery in every way. Just watch the descriptions - some use a proper photo and list it as a compatible.
